Frankfurt Airport is home to the most modern facility in the world for traveling animals. Whether it’s show horses on their way to the Olympics, domestic pets such as cats and dogs, rhinoceroses traveling from zoo to zoo, or ornamental fish – every animal receives care specific to their species.

Large animal stalls, small animal boxes, specialist aviaries, and individually temperature-controllable climatic chambers offer optimal conditions for all types of animals in a space spanning 4,000 square meters. Over 110 million animals travel safely via the Frankfurt hub each year.

Strict compliance with IATA’s Live Animals Regulations and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species is assured at all times.

Various companies at the airport specialize in the storage of Valuable Cargo (VAL) and Vulnerable Cargo (VUN). Their warehouses are equipped with high-security areas for loading and unloading, with secure areas for order picking and consolidation of goods. The warehouses also feature detectors for explosive devices.

These facilitate the storage of valuables such as precious metals, cash, artworks, weapons, narcotic substances, high-value electronics,  and pharmaceutical products in accordance with their particular legal and security requirements.

At Frankfurt Airport, all classes of dangerous goods can be handled and stored for more than 24 hours (with the exception of explosives). The storage areas are controlled and monitored by specially trained staff.

By using Infr8, the cloud-based shipping platform for dangerous goods, forwarding companies and transport operators (air, sea, rail, and road) can eliminate the conventional paper-based process for dangerous goods. The required Dangerous Goods Shipper’s Declaration is transmitted electronically amongst those involved in the transport process. The accessible portal has been designed to facilitate the digital exchange of dangerous goods details throughout the supply chain and can be flexibly integrated into existing systems using interfaces, or used as a standalone or integrated online platform.

Frankfurt Airport is geared towards the needs for e-commerce and airmail consignments. A standardized e-commerce process facilitates rapid delivery times and the digital traceability of orders. Fraport supports the operation of e-commerce terminals with high-quality IT systems, a special customs system, and by working with partner companies that are specialized in e-commerce. A large service offering with highly-efficient distribution and sorting technology facilitates the rapid and  reliable handling of international airmail and express consignments.

In order to meet the needs of future e-commerce growth, Fraport is also continuing to invest in the digitization of the Frankfurt CargoHub.

The Frankfurt CargoHub offers more than 14,000 square meters of temperature-controlled and GDP/CEIV-certified handling space for the handling of pharmaceutical goods, with direct access to the apron. Temperature-controlled transport is also possible on the apron itself thanks to special vehicles. This unique infrastructure and the additional capacity provided by dedicated pharmaceutical spaces for numerous shipping and handling companies make FRA Europe’s leading pharmaceuticals hub.
