To provide the best possible conditions to the cargo community at Frankfurt Airport, it is crucial that existing areas are used in the best way possible.
A key component of Fraport’s cargo masterplan is therefore to reorganize existing spaces in CargoCity South in a smart way, which in turn will significantly boost the future viability of the hub.
As part of a zoning modification, an optimization process is to be undertaken that covers the size, location, and layout of air cargo spaces, flight operation areas, and spaces for other operational needs.
By swapping space between flight operations and cargo, Fraport AG will free up 43,000 square meters of additional cargo space in CargoCity South, with the option to connect this directly to the apron. It is expected that these areas will be available for use from 2026 onwards. In addition, 20,000 square meters of additional storage space will be available for ground handling and special services. The 18 aircraft positions that are currently planned will be rearranged during this process.
Building a stronger CargoHub
“Given the growing demand for air cargo, we are future-proofing our capacities at the Frankfurt CargoHub. It is therefore reasonable and essential to optimize the size, location, and layout of our current cargo space.”
